First Things First
Commit to Enroll through American Medical College Application Services (AMCAS)
▢ Applicants who Received an Offer Before May 15
On April 30 the Choose Your Medical School Tool will update to provide an additional option called “Commit to Enroll.” You should only indicate this option if you have decided which medical school, you will attend and have committed to withdraw your candidacy from ALL other schools including their waitlists. If you have not made your decision by April 30 and are still deliberating between schools, or you wish to remain on a waitlist, you should continue to use the “Plan to Enroll” function, or make no selection at all.

▢ Applicants who Received an Offer After May 15
Applicants will have five business days from the date of receiving and an offer to “Commit to Enroll.”

January
▢ Ambassador Matching
As a newly admitted applicant, you will be matched with one of our ambassadors. Your matched ambassador will serve as a friendly point of contact within the school of medicine and be an additional resource for you for all things UCR. Your matched ambassador will reach out to you directly via email in the upcoming months.
No action is required.
February
▢ First Look
The purpose of this event is to allow newly admitted applicants the opportunity to learn additional information about the UCR SOM community. The day will include an introduction to SOM curriculum, medical student life, Q&A with an Executive Admissions Committee member, a tour of our on-campus SOM facilities (including the new medical education building), lunch with some of our current medical students, and more!

March
▢ UCR NetID and Password
You will receive a welcome letter from UCR main campus that provides you with your Net ID and password. If you have not received your UCR NetID and temporary password two weeks after accepting your offer, please contact the School of Medicine Admissions office.
▢ Submit Your Housing Contract
If you’d like to live on campus, these contracts become available starting April 1 and if you submit it by May 20 you’ll receive priority access to room selection! Visit the UCR Housing website for more information.
April
▢ Research Presentation
Connect with a School of Medicine faculty member as they will cover research and curriculum topics including what to expect as a new medical student.

▢ Recruitment Day
You will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, current medical students, and alumni and get a taste of campus life at UCR School of Medicine. Along with an opportunity to get an in-person fitting for your White Coat. Join us in getting a first look at the life of a medical student at UCR.

▢ Commit to Enroll

▢ SOM Financial Aid Virtual Office Hours
SOM Financial Aid office will be providing two Office Hours session. They are ready and available to answer all your student financial aid questions. Zoom link will be sent early May and June.
Event Date: May 29, 12 pm-1 pm & June 18 1 pm-2 pm
▢ White Coat Survey
In preparation of Orientation and the White Coat Ceremony all incoming medical students will complete the White Coat survey even if they have already participated in an in-person white coat fitting and have provided our office with your size. The survey will be shared in early June.

▢ Upload Your R ‘Card Photo
Incoming medical students will need both a SOM ID badge and R ‘Card for accessing all School of Medicine Education buildings. To get your R ’Card printed and activated you must complete the necessary requirements for Card Services. Visit their website for more information. More details will be provided in early July.

▢ Ordering Parking Permit
Once you have been enrolled as a UCR medical student you will receive an email informing you to purchase your parking passes online. To obtain a parking pass, you must login to Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) portal to make your purchase via the TAPS website. The pass is for Blue Lot 13, valid from August 5, 2025 through June 4, 2026.

▢ Medical Kits
Limited sets of medical kits can be purchased in person at the UCR bookstore beginning in June. You can contact the bookstore directly at (951) 827-2665 if you need any assistance in the process. Those students who meet the eligibility requirements of the Thomas Haider Program, including the Early Assurance Program (EAP) students, will receive a special scholarship to cover the cost of their medical kit and bag. You will be sent email communication of the instruments you are required to have.

▢ Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Experience (LACE) Clinical Site Survey
This dynamic three-year clinical and community program is the foundation for your journey as a well-rounded future physician. As an important initial step, the LACE team ask that you provide biographical information via the Qualtrics survey. Your responses will help us align you with a community preceptor to optimize your growth as physicians. Our goal for LACE is to provide real-time modeling of clinical reasoning skills and professional identity formation. The survey will be shared in early June.

▢ Background Check
Criminal background check will be through the Certiphi. An admitted applicant acceptance is contingent upon successful clearance of a criminal background check. More details will be provided early May.

▢ Immunization Records
Your required documentation will be submitted via our secure portal called CastleBranch (CB). This is a document manager that you will use for the duration of your time as a student to track clinical requirements and allow our clinical affiliates to track them as well. You will receive a separate email (sent to your UCR email account) with instructions for accessing the system along with a unique PIN that you will use to create your account. Please follow the instructions in the email to create your compliance portal account and begin uploading your required pre-matriculation documents as soon as possible. ▢ PRIME Summer Immersion
Only for Prime Students
The program begins with a two-week summer immersion program that is scheduled to take place prior to the start of the academic school year.

▢ Orientation
The New Student Orientation program is a week-long series of events which aims to welcome new students into the UCR SOM community, inform them of campus services and resources available for support, and educate them on SOM policies, expectations, norms, and standards. Orientation for all recently admitted MD and PhD students will take place in-person at UCR. More information about the event will be shared at the beginning of July. Attendance is mandatory.

The White Coat Ceremony is where medical students are presented with their white coat, which symbolizes the transition into clinical practice and the responsibilities associated with healthcare professions.
