UCR SOM Commencement & Hippocratic Oath 2023
The UC Riverside School of Medicine Commencement and Hippocratic Oath Ceremony will be held in-person on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 6 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.
Seating is limited and tickets are required for the ceremony. There will be no admission to the venue without a ticket.
For those unable to attend, the ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube. The stream will be available on the School of Medicine home page and is also embedded below.

Register Intent to Participate
Registration begins on April 17, 2023. An email will be sent to you UCR email address on this date asking you to login to MarchingOrder and submit your intent to register. Your UCR email address will serve as your username and you will need to create a password.
Please be sure to check your UCR email address as opposed to you medsch email address. Especially if one does not forward to the other.
You may reserve tickets when you register to participate.
Tickets
Each student will receive 15 tickets for family/guests, and tickets are required to enter the venue. Digital invitations will be available soon for students to share with family and friends.
Please note, tickets will be scanned at the door on the date of Commencement. Each individual ticket may only be scanned once.
About Regalia
How will I receive my regalia and other items?
You will need to purchase regalia from the UCR bookstore in-person. Regalia is required to participate in the ceremony. School of Medicine regalia packages will include M.D. gown, M.D. hood, and a black tam with tassel.
If you have questions about your regalia, please email kate.dorff@medsch.ucr.edu.
How do I return my regalia?
You will not need to return the regalia. It is yours to keep.
About the Commencement Ceremony
Date and Time
Friday, June 2, at 6 p.m. Doors open to guests at 5 p.m. Outdoor reception will follow the ceremony.
Students participating in the ceremony must arrive by 3:30 p.m. for a rehearsal
Rehearsal
A full walk-through of the ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m.
Hooding
The hooding is done by Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs Emma Simmons, M.D., M.P.H..
We ask that you please review the hooding video and practice prior to the ceremony.
Hippocratic Oath
You will be led in the Hippocratic Oath by Interim Senior Associate Dean Pablo Joo, M.D..
Speakers
Our keynote speaker will be Peter Igarashi, MD, dean of the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University and member of the inagurual UCR/UCLA Biomedical Sciences Program.
Our student speaker, as selected by the class, will be announced in the near future.
Ceremony Length
The ceremony will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Video Stream
The event will be streamed live on YouTube.
The YouTube stream will appear on our main website on the day of the ceremony.
Recordings
The YouTube broadcast of the ceremony will be available for future viewing.
